The Event

The Municipality of Kalymnos Island Greece together with Kalymnos Hoteliers Association and the Kalymnos Climbing Club, invite you to meet "The Aegean Climbing Paradise" and the unique climbing opportunities of Kalymnos Island Greece, through the annua l Climbing Festival in which anyone can participate free of charge.

The 2011 event will be held on Kalymnos island Greece from May 18 to May 22 with the participation of special guests.

Main events of Kalymnos Climbing Festival:

Participation and Fees.

The participation to the events of Kalymnos Climbing Festival events is free of charge. No participation or other fees are required (this does not include accommodation, food and transportation)!

Registration and Information

Registration is necessary for the better organization of the Kalymnos Climbing Festival.

Everybody who participates, contributes or supports the Kalymnos Climbing Festival must register either online at http://www.kalymnos-hotels.com/Kalymnos-Climbing-Festival/members/ or at the Info Points that will operate during the festival 1)at the Information Office at the port of Kalymnos Island, 2)at ELIES square at Panormos and 3)at Massouri

  • Only registered members will receive gifts and will be accepted to the Photo Contest, the Bouldering Contest and to the Treasure Hunt.
  • Only registered sponsors and volunteers will get feedback for their support.

Kalymnos 4th Rock Climbing Festival: Overview

Adam Ondra on JawsThe event celebrating the enchanting rocks of Kalymnos took place on the island for the fourth time on 22-26 May 2009.
More than 300 climbers from around the world participated (84 Greeks, 50 Germans, 28 Swedes, 28 Swiss, 26 Austrians, 16 Italians, 13 Spaniards, 12 Americans and individuals from 15 more countries).

Sponsors

The event’s main sponsors were the Greek Tourism Organisation (www.visitgreece.gr) and the Greek company POLO (www.polo.gr).
The Kalymnian hotels “Oasis” and “Philoxenia”, also offered the Festival’s official guests complimentary accommodation and   “AVIS” offered transport.  Winners of the bouldering, dyno and Free Ride Rally competitions were awarded prizes by POLO and the local climbing shop WILD SPORTS.

The International Rock Climbing Festival of Kalymnos 2009 - a P. S. from Katerina

The 4th International Rock Climbing Festival of Kalymnos wound up on the 26th – and what a fabulous time it had been for all! Already the route setters are looking for a 9a+

... Already the climbers who were on the crags these memorable five days are booking for their Autumn trip –
that is, those who have left at all. Because quite a few have extended their stays, well after the Fest.

International Kalymnos Climbing Festival

The International Kalymnos Climbing Festival will be held on May 22-26, 2009, on the scenic and tranquil island of Kalymnos, Greece.

The event will be organized by the Municipality of Kalymnos.

Climbers of all abilities and from all countries are welcome to attend the event.

As described on the website of Climbing magazine, the island of Kalymnos has incredible limestone routes of all difficulties, both single and multi-pitch, at a variety of angles from delicate slabs to super-steep caves covered with stalactites.
A majority of the routes are based around the village of Massouri with approaches ranging from 5 to 20 minutes.
For other areas you may need to rent a car or scooter.
